The Outer Worlds Wiki Information

The Outer Worlds Wiki is the Official Wiki and complete walkthrough and guide for RPG The Outer Worlds, a new IP by Obsidian Entertainment, the original creators of Fallout and Fallout: New Vegas. The game features a space-frontier theme, where players travel to the outskirts of civilization in Halcyon and become entangled in life-changing events that will change the course of history.

The game features many similar mechanics to Fallout, including a Stats system that is somewhat like SPECIAL, as well as a Perk system that grants passive bonuses. In addition, The Outer Worlds will have some new things, such as Flaws. Flaws will be "negative Perks" that apply a penalty to your character when certain criteria are met. For example, being in the close proximity of one enemy type may make you have a reduction in Stats. However, these negative Perks usually come with bonuses as well, much like Mutations in Fallout.

Players are able to use a variety of ranged and melee weapons, much like Fallout. Players can bring these up by using the Weapon wheel, which is something new, and works somewhat like Mass Effect. This will allow players to swap weapons on the fly, instead of having to go to their inventories each time they wish to make a change.

The Outer Worlds Everything You Need To Know

The Outer Worlds is a single-player first-person sci-fi RPG from Obsidian Entertainment and Private Division. The game features many similar mechanics to Fallout such as the Stats and Perks. There are also new mechanics added such as Flaws which will be "negative Perks" that apply a penalty to your character when certain criteria are met. Players can also choose from a variety of ranged and melee Weapons and equip 4 at the same time. On the Weapons Ledger, you can also inspect, compare them, flag them as junk, or break them down for parts. Players with the Engineering skill can repair weapons on the weapons ledger as well.

Basic Combat in Outer Worlds

In The Outer Worlds, combat is predominantly ranged and plays like an FPS game in real time except when players use Tactical Time Dilation to slow it down. Players will aim much the way they do in other shooting type games trying to hit the weakest parts of each Enemy. Players can swap Weapons on the fly, by using the Weapon Wheel. Pressing R3 or right analog stick can knock back enemies with your ranged weapon. Timed blocks can stagger opponents allowing players to follow up with a ferocious counter-attack.

All weapons have a random chance to cause a critical hit with each successful attack. Critical hits cause extra damage and can ignore the target's armor with a high weapon skill. Players can also unlock a dialog combat skill, attacking the correct type of target will automatically weaken the enemy.

Weapon Types in Outer Worlds

In The Outer Worlds, there are four different types of WeaponsBullet WeaponsEnergy WeaponsMelee Weapons, and Science Weapons.

  • Bullet Weapons have light and heavy ammo.
  • Energy Weapons have special effects and are charged rather than reloaded.
  • Melee Weapons have a short-range but powerful, effect and no need for any kind of ammo or charge.
  • Science Weapons, not much is known about them yet, but there is a “Shrink Ray”.

Players can equip up to 4 weapons equipped at a time, by navigating to the weapon, then selecting the weapon slot at the top of the screen. Overtime, weapons degrade with excessive use and can break and will have minimum effectiveness once the condition reaches zero. Players can find a Workbench and repair it, or you can do it if you have the Engineering skill. Or have a vendor do it. Weapons all have their own individual level which determines how much damage they deal. Using the Tinkering option at the workbench, you can increase the level of a weapon.

Armor in Outer Worlds

There are three types of Armor in The Outer Worlds:

Each armor also has different skill bonuses that can affect the players effectiveness in combat. There are different types of armor you can find during your exploration which grants various buffs, defenses, and most importantly, changes the physical appearance of the player if it is equipped. Just like with Weapons, Armor also degrades with excessive use and can break and will have minimum effectiveness once the condition reaches zero. Players can find a Workbench and repair it, or you can do it if you have the Engineering skill. Or have a vendor do it.

The Reliable "Unreliable" in Outer Worlds

unreliable homepage the outer worlds wiki guide

The Unreliable is the ship of Captain Hawthorne, and serves as a hub and can take you through different locations in Outer Worlds. Players will eventually take it to space and use it to explore the system, and as a base of operations for you and your companions. Locations are defined by their individual and varied biomes spread around the Halcyon System.

The Unreliable consists of two main levels which is the upper deck and the lower deck. The upper deck is where you can visit the crew quarters and interact with companions you've met on your journey and the galley. The lower deck is where you'll find the control room, cargo bay, and docking platform. The captain's quarters can be found between the two main levels.

Loot is Everywhere in Outer Worlds

In Outer Worlds, there's literally loot stashed everywhere. This game is an open world FPS RPG where different areas and locations are divided into different worlds and the possibility of finding loot is endless. Anywhere you can think of can possibly hide loot, the game encourages you to explore the vast lands and different areas of the game. Look under the stairs, check behind boxes, investigate the roofs of different buildings, there will always be loot for you to find.

Companions in Outer Worlds

There are 6 Companions in The Outer Worlds and players can have two Companions at once. Each Companion have their own Perks and alignments. Whereas players can recruit party members to crew their Starship (The Unreliable) – Companions come with you and interject in their adventures with their own views, objectives, and missions.

The Companion Ledger shows you everything you need to know about your companions. You can see their skills, stats, status effects, perks, and gear. In conjunction with gear, you can select and swap the compatible weapon and armor for your companion. On top of that, players can also change the companion's behavior in combat such as their distance, preferred weapon, and aggressiveness.

Different Damage Types in Outer Worlds

In The Outer Worlds, there five different damage types that affects both players and the enemies. These are incorporated into different weapons and certain pieces of armor. Some armor can be resistant to one damage type but weak against others. Different enemies also have certain weaknesses that are tied to different damage types.

  • physical icon 1 the outer worlds wiki guide 50pxPhysical damage that is weak against armor.
  • plasma icon 1 the outer worlds wiki guide 50pxPlasma damage is good against flesh and can apply Burn. Most creatures are weak to plasma, but it is notably ineffective against Mantisaurs.
  • corrosion icon 1 the outer worlds wiki guide 50pxCorrosion damage is good against armor, including Automechanicals, Mantisaurs, and heavy armor. Can apply the Acid effect.
  • shock icon 1 the outer worlds wiki guide 50pxShock damage is good against Automechanicals.
  • n ray icon 1 the outer worlds wiki guide 50pxN-Ray attacks cause internal damage to a target, which then radiates more N-rays to surrounding targets. N-Ray bypass most armor, but are weak against non-organic entities.

Skills & Reputation in Outer Worlds

At the beginning of the game, during Character Creation, players are given 2 Skill Points that they can add to their desired Skill. Choosing the right Attribute and modifying its value also helps increase the rank of the skills that are affected in the chosen attribute. For example, increasing the value of the Strength attribute increases the effectiveness of certain specialized skills such as 1-Handed Melee2-Handed Melee, and more.

Reputation affects the player's standing with the game's various Factions and ultimately impact the Ending. In order to gain positive reputation with the, Factions you will need to finish Quests. It's also imporant to notice that the choices you make during Quests affects the reputation gain. Faction Reputation is heavily affected by Charm, so depending on how much you spent on it, you will have more or less space to maneuver.Reputation also affects what items you can buy from that particular Factions Vending Machines (You can bypass this if you have a Hack skill of 40 or more).

Manage Your Inventory in Outer Worlds

There is so much loot for you to gather in Outer Worlds as you can see them everywhere, although there are some items that are just useless at the moment and you won't really need them until later in the game. You can store things that you don't need in the container within the captain's quarters inside the Unreliable. This will help you unload items that you don't necessarily need at the moment and that you may want to check out later and decide what to do with them.

Talk to NPCs and interact with the World in Outer Worlds

A lot of quests in Outer Worlds can be obtained, changed, or added by talking to NPCs and interacting with terminals and reading the information within it. It is encouraged to exhaust all dialogue options with everyone you encounter and read every entry on terminals. If the entry or dialogue is taking too much of your time, you can always read the subtitles and skip through the dialogue. You never know when you will uncover different quests and objectives in certain areas of the game.

Respec Your Character in Outer Worlds

In Outer Worlds, you can respec your character anyting inside the Unreliable for 500 Bit Cartridges. The cost will double everytime you try to respec your character so think twice and plan accordingly before doing so. Keep in mind that only your skill points and perks will reset when you respec your character and will not affect your current attributes. So if you invested in a particular attribute and you wanna change it up sometime down the road, you would likely have to start a new game to obtain that optimal build you're looking for.

Your Companions will also respec and it is tied wheneber you do so, although all you can do with your companions is reassign their perks points and they don't have much.

Flaws & Perks in Outer Worlds

In Outer Worlds, you will always gain a Perk every two levels or every time you gain a Flaw. Flaws are permanent negative effects that you can acquire throughout the course of the game. These negative effects usually provide a perk point/s in exchange for accepting a flaw, however, you are given the option to accept or reject it.

The Outer Worlds brings a gameplay mechanic called Flaws that introduces a real-life experience to the players. Think of a Flaw as a condition that you may encounter in real life which permanently affects either the physical, mental or emotional aspects of a person. Flaws trigger and appear only if certain causes are inflicted on the player's character, for example, being hit on the head too many times can lead to a permanent concussion, or getting attacked too many times by a specific type of enemy may cause your character to become anxious or paranoid around that enemy. Whenever a flaw is found in you, you are given a choice to accept it which is permanently applied to your character's stats or to reject it.

Perks in the other hand, are benefits that both you and your companions can acquire to further increase a Skill or to gain various buffs. You and your Companions obtain perk points which you can spend to unlock a perk. You will have the complete freedom to choose whichever desired perk you want to unlock as well as for the companions that best suit their playstyle or to better improve and specialize in certain skills. For you, there is a total number of 42 perks within three tiers, while companions have their own set of perks. There is no limit to acquiring or equipping Perks, and as mentioned, you can unlock as many as you want and choose whichever perk you want. Finally, in order to unlock the next perk tier, players will have to unlock a certain number of perks. For example, players will need to unlock 5 perks from Tier 1 in order to unlock the perks listed in Tier 2.

The game itself is overrated and overhyped, and some of it's storylines and character's send questionable messaging to be quite frank. However credit to the wiki for providing proper game help

Unlike some, I think you guys have done a great job. Enough detail to help but not too much so it’s a breeze. Many thanks!

Do armor mods effect your companions? It doesn't appear to be the case (e.g., the Backpack mod on my companions' armor does not seem to increase my overall carrying capacity -- only the Backpack on my armor does).

"much like Mutations from Fallout 76." the concept of mutations is not "from" fallout 76. the sentence should read "much like Mutations in Fallout 76.". with 'in' instead of 'from'
