This is, in effect, the best automatic weapon in the game IF you value accuracy.
While the Spacers Choice Light Assault Rifle Mk2 will do more DPS in theory, it has lower per-bullet damage. Due to how armor works in this game (it functions like Fallout New Vegas's DR, basically) having high per-bullet damage is far more useful than DPS. It is also pinpoint accurate even at long range for the first few shots, and has less recoil than the T&L version it is based on.
Last, it is available much sooner than the Assault Rifle Ultra (which it is more or less a clone of, stats wise, aside from better handling) provided you can grind out the rep needed to purchase it fast. For a High or Very High Charm build, this can be done simply by completing any 2 quests that reward Iconoclast rep.
ESPECIALLY if doing a rush to Monarch run (skipping the Nav Key, landing at Cascadia and running like hell to Stellar Bay) you should be able to acquire this weapon at level 10, where it is extremely powerful, and tinker it for the rest of the game. Its per-bullet damage is even good enough to use it as a weak sniper weapon with enough perks and points and liberal use of TTD.
ALSO: Mod it for corrosive. Corrosive is the best damage type in the game, because it provides some bonuses, including against armor, but absolutely zero drawbacks. Plus it doesn't turn enemies to ash like Plasma which can make their corpses very hard to find.
