The Pool Where Horror Dwelt is one of the Side Quests in The Outer Worlds, available with the Murder on Eridanos DLC. Side Quests are optional quests that players can choose to complete in order to obtain special rewards, XP, or reputation.
The Grand Colonial's pool has been shut down thanks to an odorous contamination. Given the circumstances, something doesn't smell right... literally.

The Pool Where Horror Dwelt Walkthrough
This quest is acquired by speaking to Dolph McAllister, a guard at the pool just outside the hotel on the South side.
You are tasked with investigating the pool. Use your Discrepancy Amplifier to scan the pool and then examine the pool filter. You can also speak with Dolph or his boss Lilie Vargas, found at the start of the bridge to the Purpleberry Orchards. Either path will give some clues, leading you to the Sun Parlor, where the former pool cleaner used to mix chemicals for the pool. Head to the Sun Parlor which is just north of the hotel.
At the Parlor, you will notice a mixing station with 3 vats of chemicals with switches in front. Examine the journal left of the mixing station to find a hand-written note at the bottom regarding a "business opportunity". Head to the balcony of the Hotel and speak with Donovan Matthas. Hear him out and he will task you with wrecking the pool for Spacer's Choice by mixing any random chemical that doesn't result in a pool cleaner. At this point, you can return to the Sun Parlor and can choose to either create the pool cleaner using the formula on the blackboard (Chemical combination 1, 5 and 4) or any other combination to create a chemical to wreck the pool with.
Whichever path you choose, add the chemical to the pool filter and then speak with Dolph. If you helped to clean the pool, he will reward you with the SLUG Storeroom Key, completing the quest. If you tainted the pool further, tell Dolph that you work for Rizzo's and then head back to Donovan to complete the quest.
As creating chemicals and putting them into the pool is repeatable you can first clean and then poison the pool. Both parties will pay you.

AnonymousYou can also choose to sabotage the saboteur -- accept Donovan's contract to put acid in the pool, but then clean the pool instead -- you'll receive the SLUG Storeroom Key from Dolph (the pool guard), and can then return to Donovan and intimidate him for the same number of bits as he would have paid had you gone through with the original sabotage.

You're rewarded SLUG underground rep for cleaning the pool. As you might know there's a "hidden" rep for Spacer's Choice that you can get from helping out Spacer's choice on Gorgon. This is however not the rep you will get for crashing the pool. It's the normal Spacer's Choice rep you get in Edgewater. "Hidden" rep gains might have made the choice interesting but unless we get one Edgewater rep and one Spacer's Choice rep seperatly in some patch AND change the rep gain accordingly, the choice to clean the pool is obvious.
There's a Knockout court (think Tennis court) to the right of the pool. SAM has special dialog when near the court.
